Penang National Park

Description:

  • This is a lowland forest covering most of the northwestern tip of Penang Island. In the 1970s it was popular with the Boy Scouts as the ultimate adventure haunt. It hosts a diverse ecosystem of forest vegetation, mangrove swamps, rock coast. Aquatic life along its sandy beaches is one of the main attractions with prawns and crabs. The beaches have been nestling grounds for two of the world's seven known species of sea turtles. Serious ecological damage has resulted from its overuse and has prompting the Malaysia Nature Society to lobby hard to secure its protection as a national park.
