Wat Chayamangkalaram

Description:

  • Looming tall, it is a landmark to this Thai Buddhist temple and with the longest reclining Buddha statue in the world. The 180-foot gold-plated statue is housed in the main shrine, a simple elongated rectangular building with a high-pitched roof. On display are the colorful, distinct Thai architectural motifs with sculptured creature-like ornaments and floral carvings painted in gold and rainbow colours. Images of the Buddha fill the interior. The temple celebrates the Thai New Year, Wesak Day, Merit Making Day and the anniversary consecration of the statue.
