Many of Perth's most popular tourist attractions are outdoors, which is no surprise if you look at Perth's track record with fine, sunny weather. The jewel of the city centre is Kings Park, an area of parks and bushland which has a combined area larger than New York's Central Park. Kings Park is located right in the city centre, on a hill, with views over the downtown area of Perth as well as of the Swan River. Cafes, art galleries, walks, picnic areas and playgrounds are just some of the attractions that make Kings Park a top destination.
Many visitors to Perth want to see some of the local animals, and there are several tourist attractions just right for this, including the award-winning Perth Zoo, Caversham Wildlife Park and the Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA). Each of these attractions are unique, with the Perth Zoo being a great day out with shady walks and picnic areas; at Caversham you can meet and interact with some of the local native species, and at AQWA you can ride the rotating travelator through the aquarium tunnel and even feed sharks if you're particularly brave.
A day trip to Rottnest Island is another of the most popular attractions of Perth, and anybody who spends a few hours - or if you have time, a few days - on "Rotto" is bound to come back relaxed and refreshed. Cycling, swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving are all popular activities on Rottnest, and there are several cafes and a pub to relax in afterwards.
