Water Sports in Perth

Water sports are a central part of a Perth experience. With both the Indian Ocean and the large Swan River to play with, water sports and other water activities are one of the mainstays of Perth life. A unique and beautiful water experience in Perth is to join a sail on the Sail Training Ship Leeuwin, which offers half-day cruises or multi-day journeys on this replica sailboat, with the passengers being required to pitch in and help set sails and pull ropes.

A more active water sports experience can be had at the Cables Water Ski Park, or you can also find water ski facilities on the Swan River; canoes, kayaks and catamarans are also available for hire at various points along the Swan River. If surfing is more your thing, then there are numerous beaches with excellent surf breaks and several where you can both hire surfboards and get some surf lessons.

Swimmers who want a once in a lifetime swimming experience should plan ahead to take part in the Rottnest Channel Swim, although you need to beware of the sharks! A more relaxed Rottnest swimming experience is to spend a day or a week snorkelling and scuba diving at Rottnest Island. Alternatively, visit one of Perth's many modern swimming and leisure centres such as the Beatty Park Leisure Centre close to the city centre. The water is perfectly heated at these leisure centres so you and your family can enjoy them whatever time of the year you decide to visit Perth.
