Top 10:

Perth Zoos/Aquariums

  • The Best of NileGuide

  • Perth is home to numerous zoos, aquariums and animal parks which make fantastic days out for adults and children alike. Since Australia is home to unique wildlife like kangaroos and koalas, and Western Australian zoos and aquariums have even more unique creatures such as native quokkas and black swans, Perth is a great place for animal lovers to visit.

For seeing Australian animals in a natural but accessible habitat, Caversham Wildlife Park in the eastern suburbs of Perth is one of the most popular attractions. The staff and volunteers at Caversham are knowledgeable, friendly and care about keeping both the animals and the visitors happy.

Other key zoos and aquariums in Perth include the Perth Zoo on the southern side of the river, which is by far the biggest zoo in Perth and it's been home to hundreds of different kinds of animals for many years now. If it's marine life you're after, then the best spot is the Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA) on the coast in the northern suburbs, which cleverly showcases the sea life found along Western Australia's vast coast line; alternatively, a swim with the dolphins off the coast at Rockingham is a way to really get up close with the marine life of Perth.

A bit further off the beaten track is the relatively new Karakamia Sanctuary, where you can book a dusk to late evening walk through this conservation area to see nocturnal native animals and birds in a natural habitat. Like many zoos and animal parks in and around Perth, the natural setting of Karakamia is just as lovely as the experience you'll have with the animals there.
