About Petra

Introduction

Petra, the legendary lost city carved into the walls of a hidden desert canyon, is the most famous of Jordan's many dazzling sites and a fascinating excursion from Eilat. There are escorted bus tours that leave Eilat early in the morning, get you to Petra before noon, and back to your hotel in Eilat by late afternoon. But Petra's antiquities, natural beauty, and ever-changing feel at different times of day are easily worth a stay of 1 to 3 nights or more. In addition, there are beautiful, amazing affordable desert resorts only a few minutes from Petra, which make this a good place to chill and relax.

We also encourage readers to look into adding more of Jordan to their travel plans. Since 1994, when the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Israel signed a peace agreement ending a 46-year-long state of war, the Kingdom of Jordan has been host to a wave of international and Israeli tourists.
