Description:
An evening concert at the Mann is one of summer's delights. Located at one end of Fairmount Park, this open-air theater has covered seating and space for picnicking on the grass. The Mann presents annual performances by the Philadelphia Orchestra and showcases artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, James Taylor, R.E.M., and the Gipsy Kings. There is also a Young People's Series, and regular performances by the Philly Pops.
Special SEPTA buses travel from Center City and plenty of paid parking is available in nearby lots. Concerts are usually at 8pm. Tickets for the covered amphitheater seats may be purchased at the box office there, if available, or by calling ahead.
You can also enjoy music under the stars, on the grassy slopes above the orchestra, where picnicking is encouraged. From here, you'll have a great view of the city skyline. Seating is unassigned, but tickets are required. The food stall choices range from fine and ethnic to fast, and wine and beer are available. Don't forget the blankets and insect repellent.
