Top 5 Dive Bars

Description:

These places aren’t fancy. If you like your beer quick and cheap, you like your crowd crude but welcoming, and you’d rather shoot people dirty looks than pick up a date, these are the bars for you. Bob and Barbara’s, home of the famous three-dollar “special” (a PBR and a shot of Jim Beam), is a popular bike messenger hangout, while McGillin’s and McGlinchey’s often feel more like frat parties. Dirty Frank’s may be the “dirtiest” of them all, with nary a window letting light into the place and fully tattooed patrons lining the bar every night of the week.

    Our Local Expert Says:

Come here for cheap drinks and entertaining locals, and be sure to check out the mural of famous Franks that adorns the outside of the building.

    Description:

Neon beer signs, car parts, narrow booths and outrageous drinking decorate this watering hole. A large jazz selection on the jukebox. What this joint lacks in sophistication and décor its crowd more than makes up for in unpretentious, zealous exuberance about having a good time. College students and those who drink for sport tend to patronize this popular dive. You can always count on cheap drinks and plenty of people to sink them down with at Dirty Frank's. Cash only!

McGlinchey's is always jam-packed with people enjoying cheap beer, even cheaper food (when it offers food), and the ultra-divey atmosphere. Don't go to McGlinchey's expecting a nice, quiet evening or a sampling of high-end beers; go there if you want your drinks cheap and dirty and filled with attitude!
