Downtown Phoenix has shifted from a business-only center to a place where more people live, eat, and hang out, and many of the city's suburbs have raised their profile and contributed to the vibrant, always-changing nature of the Valley of the Sun.

    Our top choice for things to do during your Phoenix stay is a visit to the Desert Botanical Garden. The Garden's paved, winding paths and dusty gravel trails showcase the native Sonoran Desert plants and trees that make this part of the world so special. The Desert Botanical Garden is also a nexus of cultural events, including musical concerts, art exhibits, and seasonal festivals. Chances are something of note will be happening during your visit.

    For panoramic city and desert views and famously dramatic desert sunsets, tie on your hiking boots and explore iconic Camelback Mountain and Papago Park. If narrow mountain passages don't scare you, a drive up South Mountain Park is a must.

    If you happen to find yourself in Phoenix during the sweltering summer months, seek refuge in the cultural offerings--and robust air-conditioning systems--of the world-renown Heard Museum and Phoenix Art Museum on Central Avenue. The Arizona Science Center, also located in downtown, is a great family-friendly museum with planetarium and reliably entertaining, revolving exhibits.
