- Easily one of the most beautiful desert roads in the world, this two lane road twists through the collapsed caldera that is collectively referred to as The Superstition Mountains, following the swath cut by the Salt River. There are three dams, and subsequently three lakes on this road, each with its own amazing scenery. Tortilla flats has a small town to visit, have a drink or some cactus ice cream. Only a thirty minute drive from Phoenix, many tourists overlook this wonderful afternoon drive.
