Sonoran Desert Tomcar Tour

Description:

  • Hit the Sonoran Desert in a Tomcar, a new high-performance all-terrain vehicle! These military-style off-road Tomcars are similar to dune buggies or rally cars, but built for comfort as well as fun for the whole family! The tour departs from New River, Arizona approximately 30 miles north of Phoenix. With a choice of half-day and full-day tours, you'll discover why the only way to tour the Sonoran Desert off-road is by Tomcar.

Self-pilot your comfortable and automatic all terrain Tomcar as you follow your guide through various off-road trails in the Sonoran Desert. Along the way you'll learn about the plant and animal life that inhabit this unique landscape. Choose from half-day and full-day options.

    Half-Day Tour
On your 3.5-hour off-roading adventure you'll drive through the beauty of the Sonoran Desert and explore a turquoise mine and Native American ruins. See the Sonoran Desert up-close and perhaps glimpse javalinas, desert mule deer, coyotes, rattlesnakes and more. Of course, you'll also experience fun driving challenges including descents, ascents and river crossings.

    Upgrade to the Full-Day Tour

On the full-day 7.5-hour Tomcar tour you'll begin your adventure by taking a trip back in time to the late 1800s, when the Bradshaw Mountains had a higher population than Phoenix. Your first stop is the turquoise mine, where you'll spend 20 minutes looking for turquoise – a great keepsake to remember your adventure. Next stop is an old gold mine full of original equipment, miner shacks, core samples and tools.

Driving to the ghost town of Tip Top, which was once a thriving silver mine, you'll see amazing views and virgin landscapes. After a box lunch is served in the old brewery, you'll have an hour to explore the buildings and nearby attractions. On your return trip, you'll experience a whole new set of breathtaking views as you head for the historical monument of Agua Fria fort. Before completing your tour you'll  visit Gillette, another ghost town.

Add a firearms adventure to either tour option
Gain real skills during live fire exercises with semi-automatic M16s and Glock 9mm handguns. With training provided by an NRA-certified rifle and pistol instructor, you'll fire 30 rounds from each firearm in various protocols as called out by the instructor. Upon completion of the course you'll have practical knowledge of the importance of gun safety. This course is fun for beginners and aficionados.
