The key to successful shopping in Phuket is to be willing to walk, explore and bargain for what you want. While there are several luxury shopping centers in Phuket, some of the most interesting and unique items are found in night markets, where the locals (and not the tourists) shop. While shopping in Phuket, keep in mind that locals expect you to bargain. Shopping centers and high-end locals will have fixed prices, but when shopping at small local shops and outdoor markets, always bargain for a discount. The price you first hear is not what the seller expects to get. If you pay it, they will take it, but the rule of thumb is that you should offer at least half of what's originally quoted and then go from there.
