Phuket's many islands attract an array of tourists - most of them looking for beaches, good weather and just a bit of sun. Be warned, however, the "Green Season," or monsoon period from May to October can bring with it particularly treacherous weather. While many hotels offer deals and discounts during this period, be aware of the dangers before traveling there. The main tourist season or "High Season," from November to April, is peak travel time. While hotels usually adjust their prices according to weather, Phuket offers an array of accommodation year-round - suitable for everyone from the wandering backpacker to the luxury jetsetter.
The island's main urban centre, Phuket Town, offers many hostels at modest prices (usually starting at US$7/night). Crown Hostel is in the centre of town and offers apartment-style rooms at affordable prices. Because of its great location, this hostel usually gets booked up early so travelers should book their rooms well in advance. Kata Happy House is a small guesthouse located a little further from the hustle and bustle of the city, and about a mile away from Kata Beach.
The Royal Phuket City Hotel offers slightly higher end accommodation, a pool, gym and a great location amidst plenty of entertainment, shopping and Thai bazaars. On the higher end, and further away from the town, is the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket, offering luxury living and endless recreation - from pools, to golf courses to restaurants with alfresco dining. For families and couples, there are also private villas available - some of which even have their own pool. A more understated, but similarly high quality, hotel is the Twinpalms Phuket. Perfect for couples looking to get away, this hotel offers understated, subtle luxury and is an oasis of calm away from the bustle of the big beaches and Phuket Town. They offer a spa, pool, gym, and for the more discerning traveler, a library -perfect to catch up on some holiday reading.
