- Before the newly constructed Big Buddha became a favorite viewpoint, tourists still made their way to Promthep Viewpoint to catch a glimpse of the surroundings. Because the viewpoint is located at the tip of the cape, it offers unobstructed views of the green seas around and the magnificent island that dot the area around Phuket. You don't need to join a tour to come here, although many city tours make it a point to stop at Promthep in early evening, just to allow tourists to catch the sunset. For an even better view, climb the lighthouse to the observation level. Just remember it gets crowded and the number of people that can fit inside is limited. Arrive early if you have your heart set on climbing the lighthouse.
