The Question
Public Question Asked by NileGuide about Phuket
Hi ,
I have bought my flight ticket to phuket . There are two of us, me and my boy friend. I have my own itinery on the places i wish to go and show to watch. Is it possible that you can arrange for us at a budget price? I havent book my hotel yet too.
Our flight will be on the 26th june 2011. departure: 12.40PM Arrival: 1300 (1PM).
Return on the 30th june 2011. departure: 9.40PM Arrival: 11.59PM
(5 days 4 nights)
-do you know why from kl to phuket the time is only 20minutes but fly back time is more than an hour? is it because of the difference in time zone?
Below are the places i wish to go:
1. Phuket Fantasea show (if its within my budget..maybe can include the dinner too~)
2.Phuket Simon Cabaret
3.Thai Boxing show
4. Phuket elephant trekking (45mins)
5. Phi Phi island
6.Phuket City Tour (Phromthep Cape, phuket view point, wat chalong)
(the rest of my time i would like it to be my leisure time where i can go shopping at the night market in Patong, massage and spa and so on.. more relax kind,=) )
can recommend hotel.. tuk tuk car prices... and so on? which pub or bar to hang out ?
*we are still students so hope can help us to plan a budget and memorable trip =)
thanks a lot~

If this is your first trip to Thailand and specifically to Phuket, I might recommend that you stay in the Kata/Karon area rather than Patong. So much will really depend on what you wish most to enjoy. Most people are disappointed by Patong unless you really are going for the 'nightlife.' I suggest Kata because it's a nice little community and offers great beaches, with lots to see and do within walking distance. There are so many inexpensive guest houses to chose from to stay. It's also only 15 minutes from Patong via Tuk Tuk, motorbike, or car.
Most hotels and/or guest houses will offer a 'package' for the show at FantaSea which includes transportation. The show is located in Kamala, north of Patong by 15 minutes. Frankly an evening sunset on the beach offers much better value! I'm just being honest..... Same with Simon Caberet, once is enough and there are so many more ways to enjoy an evening in paradise.
Once you get to Phuket, you'll probably discover 'Thai Time.' Everything is slower and all of a sudden your priorities for spending time changes. Romantic walks on the beach are a must, sleeping in late, and afternoon naps in the sun, and lots of beach massages. ;-)
Taxis and Tuk Tuks are expensive in Phuket, relative to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. You might consider renting a car for a day, typically can be found for as low as 600-800 baht in June but expect the starting price to be 1000-1200 baht.
Flights from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur take about 90 minutes and there is a one hour time difference. Phuket is 'behind' KL.
If the water conditions are ok, then booking a day trip to Phi Phi Island, all of this can be arranged at your guest house....there is NO need to pre-book anything...because you just might change your mind!
Restaurants and bars are plentiful .... most can be reasonably priced and many bars will offer a 'happy hour.' My husband and I run a small sports bar in Kata called Duke's Big Board Bar. So if you are into sports, it's the place to hang and you'll meet other travelers and local expats to get advice.
If you haven't yet, go look at AGODA or LATESTAYS.COM to get an idea of lodging prices. You can stay as cheaply as 500 baht a night or many more times that for luxury. June is considered low season so rates are much cheaper and there are fewer tourists.
Perhaps this will help get you started. Let me know how else I can help.

Hi NileGuide User
Good answers by everyone.
One thing I must emphasise please, is that during the low or monsoon season, sea swimming along the west coast is extremely dangerous. Many have lost their lives to the serious rip-tides in the Kata/ Karon and Nai Harn beach areas. Please be aware of this and plan your itinery around better land based activities. Check out www.phuketwan.com for all local news.
If you need more info feel free to ask us.
Look forward to you having a wonderful time here on Phuket.

Since you'll be arriving in Phuket in low season you shouldn't have any problems booking cheap accomodation where ever you choose to stay in Phuket. Patong is great for the nightlife and you can get cheap rooms very close to the beach and bangla road (the main party area) there is a huge number of bars just on this road so walking up and down you can pop in and out as you feel. But be prepared as it can be very crazy, everyone trying to get you into their bars millions of flyers for promotions etc, if you're after a lively night out then go with the flow. you might not want to stay in Patong for all your nights, maybe try kata and karon beach where you can get budget accomodation close to the beach with a range of more chilled out bars, they have the night markets everywhere so shopping is easy in phuket. You might find Patong a little more expensive than Phuket town for shopping.
Fantasea can be booked from almost anywhere in Phuket and normally they do the package with transport / dinner, its a big attraction for a lot of people. Same with the cabaret show and elephant treking which you should find easy to book as well. maybe if you decide to book all at the same time you could haggle for a discount. Tuk Tuks and taxi's are more expensive in phuket than other places around thailanbd so you might find it cheaper and more convienient to hire a scooter or car, this way you could do the tour around Phuket on your own with a map. Check on some of the hotel sites for booking cheap rooms but you might find it better to just book 1 or 2 nights to start, low season (as long as there are no special holidays or events on) you will find availibilty in most places. Phi phi island is worth a trip and you can decide on either a planned day trip including the maya bay tour or go and stay a night. I would recommend booking the ferry ticket at your hotel as it is expensive to buy direct at the pier. Only the most stormy days make the trip not so pleasant on the ferry, the sea is rougher at this time of the year but choose a sunny less windy day and you'll be fine. You can book hotels in advance on PP on the hotel sites, be aware of where your hotel is though as people often book at the north of the island thinking you can walk around, this is not the case and it could be expensive for boats back and forward to the main town area, for cheaper rooms stcik to the tonsai / loh dalum area which is all easy walking. you can pull up a map to check it out. Hope all goes well and im sure you'll have a fantastic holiday.

Because Time different between KL and Phuket is 1 hour. So when cross to thailand, Thailand time is 1 hour slower than KL, that's why it take only 20 minute but on the airplane, I think it take around 1 hour. About the trip, I'm not a local so would you please wait to the local ^_^

Heja: Good 'n great question with details for your 4 day tour to Phuket in June 2011!
May I suggest, that you start your enquiry again by April 2011; who knows what all
(may) happen within 8 months! Your plans for 4 days knockout and thrilling events
will just depend upon your cashflow. Since it will be rather "low" (Monsoon) season,
chances are great for good (accomodation) bargains.

Malaysia is 1hr earlier than Thailand. I suggest that you book your hotel in phuket town rather than on the beach like Kata, Karon or Patong...Hotel Prices on the beaches are more than double..Phuket town is only 15-30mins drive to the beach and its easier to go around Phuket if you're in town with much cheaper prices..a lot cheaper than on the beaches..If u need more help feel free to contact me at LOMAGE1502@AOL.com or LGENE_JC@YAHOO.COM
