I really love just cruising on the water-is it possible to rent a boat in Phuket and just do my own thing without a tour guide?

Bippy, yes it is certainly possible. We can offer you everything from speed boats, to cruisers and even super luxury yachts.
You may also charter a bare boat, without crew if you have a valid sailing ticket and just do your own thing. Other cruisers are full complement of crew and food.
There are many good operators of such tours on Phuket.
The wonderful waters of the Andaman Sea are rich in marine life and are excellent for cruising around.
