Our Top 10 List of boutique hotels in Playa Del Carmen includes a flavor for every taste. The boutique hotels included here vary widely in design - from modern to classic - but they share two important qualities: comfort and style. However, don't expect traditional carpeting and décor. These original works of art cater to your travel needs with a flair for the avant-garde, and they are not just places to lay your head.
Our number one boutique hotel in Playa Del Carmen is impossible to miss if you find yourself north of the street - Constituyentes. At first glance it looks like a wild art gallery or theater, and indeed it has many theatrical aspects to it. This is not the most expensive hotel on our list, but is such a breathtaking architectural achievement that it had to be first. This does not mean that it does not offer top quality lodging. From bedding to electronics and bath products, this hotel has the best of everything.
Coincidentally, our second choice is across the street from Reina Roja, but it is at the other end of the spectrum in style. It also happens to be one of the only hotels on our list that has a section that accepts children. Quiet and understated, Hotel Aventura Mexican is an oasis from the hustle and bustle that defines much of Playa del Carmen, as is our fifth hotel, Casa Ticul.
Hotel Basico is similar to Reina Roja in its ultra-modern, experimental style and its very hip rooftop bar and lounge. This hotel, along with La Tortuga, Deseo, Le Reve, Las Palapas, and El Taj are the most expensive on our list - averaging around $230 U.S. per night.
All hotels on our list have swimming pools, but only three are on the beach: Le Reve, Las Palapas, and El Taj. The first is the farthest away from downtown, and the latter is the only one that offers fully equipped kitchens.
