The Space Gallery is an urban arts center that has set new standards for the Portland cultural scene. Recent features have included the Sketchbook Project in which 10,000 artists from 60 countries were invited to fill a sketchbook with their art and share it with the world; the showing of Gasland, an insightful and compelling documentary about the natural gas industry in America; and dynamic performances by cutting edge musicians playing everything from West African jazz to neo-folk and modern rockabilly. Many of the center's concerts take place in an intimate lounge space featuring cocktails, beer and appetizer munchies.
