Seattle is only a three hour drive from Portland, and is a great weekend trip. With amazing clam chowder, art, and culture, Seattle is not to be missed if you have the time. The area between Portland and Seattle is beautiful and lush, and there are many hikes that are easy to take when traveling between the two. The Pacific Northwest is a unique place to visit, and Washington State is well worth extending your trip if you're planning a trip to Oregon.
