  • Ride the elevator to the terrace of the Hotel Splendido in Portofino and you will be rewarded with glorious ocean views, a great ambiance and a lavish spread. A courteous staff, attuned to the needs of diners, is in keeping with the hotel's high standards. Dishes worth a sampling are: Mussels sauteed in tomato sauce and black olive dumplings for starters, followed by deep-fried scampi with baby squid, or the broiled lobster for mains. Scan through staples like lamb, veal and beef to discover a rarity: sauteed fillets of rabbit with ham and sage. Grilled seasonal veggies embellish each dish, while a fine selection of wines and cheeses make for good appetizers and desserts. Though a children's menu is available, this is the sort of place to bring a date rather than a brood, so stock up your wallet and book your table.
