Description:

  • A tavern and inn since Colonial times, when travelers stopped along the Old Post Road to Albany for fortification, this inn, recently renovated and reopened with a new owner and chef, remains one of the most atmospheric places to dine in the Hudson Valley. The three separate dining rooms with fireplaces are models of rustic elegance. Dinner may be a la carte or a four-course prix-fixe or six-course tasting menu. Your appetizer might be grilled tiger shrimp over sautéed spinach and mango, followed by a nice salad and an entree of trout almondine or pan-seared sliced veal with wild mushroom risotto. The wine list has a number of surprisingly affordable choices. Jackets are requested for gentlemen at dinner. The Sunday four-course champagne brunch is also quite an affair, though more casual.
