When traveling food, unfortunately, can eat up a lot of your Czech crowns. Prague is no stranger to expensive restaurants, and often in the center, the quality does not match the price. For true budget travelers, a trip to the grocery store is your best bet. Tesco has a large food shop in its basement; pick up picnic items upstairs. Budget eaters will be able to find wallet-friendly fare at all of these recommended cheap restaurants - even if not every item on the menu is priced low. Location matters too, so we've grouped our suggestions by area so hopefully a cheap meal will be only steps away. Eating out mid-day is much cheaper in Prague thanks to the lunch specials nearly every restaurant offers. Take advantage!
In Mala Strana, on the Prague Castle side of the river a visit to Bar Bar will be a pleasant adventure thanks to their interesting interior and wide ranging menu. Those looking for Czech food should stay up on the hill close to the castle for a visit to U Zavesenyho. Maly Buddha, an Asian vegetarian restaurant offers great value for such a tourist hot-spot.
Over on the Old Town side of the river, U Provaznice regularly packs them in thanks to their good Czech cooking and super lunch specials. One of the ultimate cheapo places is Country Life a cafeteria style vegetarian restaurant that prices their food by weight. Bohemia Bagel is one of the best breakfast restaurants in town, but they also serve sandwiches, salads and desserts for all day noshing. Free coffee and soft drink refills.
A bit farther out are two super ethnic restaurants with great food - Manni Pakistani Restaurant in Prague 3 and Siam Orchid Thai Cuisine. Also in Prague 3 is a great pub, U Sadu. If you are feeling adventurous a wander around the pubs and restaurants in this area can be a great cultural experience.
