The Best of NileGuide
- Yum – Czech food! What, you didn’t come to Prague to discover its gastronomical glories? That’s okay; we’ll share some suggestions with you. First, let’s dispel some myths: Czech food is not all bland and heavy. Trust us, you can still find a meal out there that seems to have all been boiled in one pot, but there are many Czech restaurants experimenting with light and flavorful cooking. Items on the menu to look for include Svičková, beef in cream sauce or Guláš. Side dishes are usually ordered separately, and include potatoes or knedliky, traditional bread dumplings. Polévka, or soup, is very popular; garlic and onion are often on offer. If you are looking for a snack to go with that delicious beer, you may want to try Utopenci (literally means drowned), a sausage pickled in vinegar, oil and spices. For the ultimate cholesterol raising meal; order Smažený Sýr a Tatarská Omáčka, fried cheese and tarter sauce, although the tarter sauce is more like a mayonnaise. Ordered with a side of fries, this is one Czech meal you’ll never forget.
