Day 1 - Prague

Start the Museum end of the square at the statue of the great king, and wander down the famous square checking out the old and new buildings. This isn't the oldest or the most beautiful part of the city, but it is replete with history. Imagine the Soviet tanks overrunning it in 68, or students packed in the square looking up at Havel on the balcony in 89. Wander from Museum (statue) end towards old town square, stopping to have a chlebicky (open faced sandwich) or two along the way to fuel you up for the day. After finishing on the square, find your way to Stavovske Divadlo,or the estates theater, which is where Mozart premiered Don Giovani. Completely renovated and reopened in the early 1990s, the theater is truly a mark of musical history. Check out the schedule to see if there are any programs going on while you are there. Wander down the cobblestone streets to old town square, check in on Jan Hus, the immolated Czech martyr. There are several churches to explore, cafes to sit at, and of course the Old Town hall clock to gather round and watch. When you've had enough of the square it's time to find your way to the old Jewish quarter. This is the subject of an entire tour itself sot leave a good half a day to finish up at the quarter. End your day having some svickova (beef with cream suace and dumplings) at a beer hall.

Day 2 - Prague

Find your way to Charles bridge and venture through the hopefully not quite summer-density crowds. Stop and check out the statues and the views in all directions. When you get to MalaStrana, work your way up the hill to Prague Castle (again a whole tour in itself, noted elsewhere), come back down, and grab a bite at Joe's bar. This is NOT authentic Czech, but a welcome break from the traditional local foods. Then go over to Petrin hill next store, take the funicular to the top and enjoy the views. Come back down and plan to have dinner at the fancy Three Ostriches (make sure you have reservations). It may require a trip back to the hotel to fancy yourself up, but that's up to you....
