Description:

  • This is the oldest park in Pretoria and a national monument. It is opposite Melrose House, in which there is now a museum. The layout of the park was completed in 1892 and was undertaken by George Heys (the first owner of Melrose House) in collaboration with the botanist James Hunter. It is surrounded by trees, flowers and fountains, and one gets the impression that one has stumbled into a secret garden. There's even a tea garden on the premises, perfect for relaxing to the sound of birdsong.
