Puebla is worldwide famous for its local cuisine. You can't leave Puebla without trying "Mole", a sauce made with chili peppers, spices, chocolate and many more ingredients poured over chicken meat. If you visit the city in August or September, you must try the "Chiles en Nogada", a colorful dish, representing the Mexican flag, made of poblano chili pepper filled with minced meat, and walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds on top. These are the two most famous dishes in Puebla, but there are so many other things in Mexican cuisine a good traveller must try: Chalupas, Tinga, Flautas, Picaditas, Pozole and so much more!
Many of the restaurants downtown serve traditional food, but there are some that serve non traditional food, this is mexican cuisine with a modern twist. Some boutique hotels have nice restaurants with both traditional and non traditional food. If you like tacos, you came to the right place! There are many "Taquerias" downtown, all you have to do is decide what kind of tacos you like. It could be "Al Pastor", made of thin pork steaks, or perhaps Fried or Grill Tacos. But there is one kind you'll only find in Puebla: "Tacos Arabes". These are made with pork and served in "pan arabe", a kind of pita, instead of tortilla. This kind of tacos are sold only in Taquerias Orientales, but there are plenty of them all over town, so don't worry, you won't miss them.
If you want something more international, you'll find that too in Puebla. There are plenty of Italian, French, German and Japanese restaurants, as well as fast food chains.
