NileGuide Expert Says:

A great place to do some serious window (or actual) shopping among some of the best popular crafts available in Chile.

NileGuide Expert tip:

If you're not going to Chiloé, pick up your woven and knitted woolens here before returning to Santiago or wherever you're headed next.

Description:

The Fería Artesenal (crafts fair) at the Angelmo fishing cay (caleta) is one of the country's best. For those who won't be making it down to Chiloé, this is the best place to buy knitted and woven woolen items, or the wool itself. Hats, scarves, sweaters, blankets, ponchos and a broad tapestry used at the foot of the bed are all available at good prices here. Jams and jellies are also sold, as well as carved wooden items, such as bowls and serving plates made from raulí.

A suggested stop either before or after you eat lunch at one of the restaurants on stilts that overlook the water and serve some of the freshest seafood you'll ever eat with abundant portions at good prices.

From the terminal or Plaza de Armas, take a colectivo (shared taxi) to Angelmó for around 400 pesos.
