Description:

Mesita Grande, a contradiction in a name, as mesita means small table, and grande means big, can be forgiven for its linguistic peculiarity. It's a comfortable dining room in the oldest commercial building in Puerto Natales, built in 1916. And from this historical spot, Mesita Grande (which has one rough-hewn and finished main picnic-style table at which almost everyone sits) are served some of the best pizzas in Chile. No sad excuse for pizza in a tourist outpost this, the pizza is hand made and cooked in a wood-burning stove, with quality sauce and real mozzarella and a variety of traditional toppings, all priced at about $10 or less. The space can get a little talkative with neighbors from all parts of the world sharing conversation and advice (but never their pizza), but that's part of the convivial atmosphere of this restaurant. Mesita Grande also has fresh pastas, big salads, desserts and even local Baguales beer served on tap in tall, slender glasses to finish off the night.
