We are coming in on a cruise ship. Can walk from the port to the town? Is it a fairly short walk? What should we not miss seeing?

Hi
No you can not walk to town from the port. You can catch a bus for 6.5 pesos, and it will take about 15-20 minutes to get to downtown, or a cab for about 80 pesos. If you are there for only a few hours, i would stay away from the flea markets (unless that is your purpose) It is very large, and you can really end up spending way more time than you want to in there!
I would suggest simply walking the malecon. It is a beautiful stroll along side the ocean, and there are many shops and dining options to chose from. I do think you should see the cathedral once you are in town. It is beyond beautiful, inside and out. If you are spending at least 8 hours in PV, I think going to Mismaloya Beach is a nice choice. It is just south of the downtown area, and the beach is not crazy busy like in town. There are restaurants set up along the beach and a hotel. It is also where they filmed Night of the Iguana.
