Description:

  • You know the moment. You're in the mood for adventurous eating, a dip into the local cuisine, and the fanciful taste combinations of a creative chef. But the person you're traveling with wants pizza. Or a steak. Put Pain Béni on your itinerary and everyone ends up happy. There are pizzas -- three-cheese and tomato, vegetarian, grilled chicken -- and pastas, and a filet mignon with scalloped potatoes. But there are also Québécois classics with modern twists, like blood pudding and Mamirolle cheese in puff pastry with star-anise sauce, or sweetbreads and red tuna caramelized in honey and soy with a vanilla-perfumed artichoke purée. Even the desserts are kicked up a notch, as with the rum-flambéed banana crème brûlée with grilled coconut. This newish restaurant in the heart of Upper Town is handsome and fairly priced.
