Life Wellness Resort Quy Nhon

• Far south of Quy Nhon, the grand sweep of rocky bay out in front of the luxury Life Resort is like a sea of lights at night -- a sea of floodlights from local fishermen jigging for squid. You can expect lots of fresh seafood on the resort's live bar each night. The other perk is being able to sit and watch the small basket boats, which are just big enough for one or two people and used as tenders to carry a catch or supplies ashore, riding the dangerous surf just north of the resort -- take a walk and you might get to talking with these friendly locals. The Life Resort at Quy Nhon is a real find, a self-contained hideaway far from the wicked world, with a fine standard of rooms, dining, and services. You couldn't ask for more. Guest rooms are huge, and the top-floor rooms have peaked tile roofs. Every room has a balcony oriented to the stunning seascape out front. Bathrooms have shower only, but that shower looks out over the sea from a floor-to-ceiling plate-glass window (there's a curtain if you're shy). The cool open plan of the room is quite cozy, especially when the ocean breezes blow. The resort has a fine spa, with luxurious treatment centers set on a cliff-top area amid lush gardens. Double spa suites have private Jacuzzis. The smallish central pool offers great views of the bay. Dining at the resort is a sumptuous affair, especially considering the great raw bar. I enjoyed a whole red snapper grilled in Vietnamese fish sauce and served with rice and salad for just $8 (£4.40), a delicious meal. The resort also has an in-house scuba team who lead good day trips. Life Resort Quy Nhon has one drawback: its remote location some 16km (10 miles) south of Quy Nhon town; but this destination resort covers all the bases. One man's isolation is another's solitude.
