Ravello was a flourishing town in the Middle Ages and many of the top things to do reflect the town's important history. The beautiful gardens of the Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone are open to the public, and a stroll through the serene gardens will transport you back to the medieval splendor of Ravello. These lavish villas were home to important merchant families, and both offer outstanding views overlooking the Amalfi Coast.
The wealth and prominence of medieval Ravello is also evident from the many beautiful churches you can visit during your stay. The Duomo is located in the center of Ravello in the Piazza del Vescovado and is dedicated to the town's patron saint and protector San Pantaleone. Don't miss the Churches of Santa Maria a Gradillo and San Giovanni del Toro, both architectural highlights of Ravello. Or visit the quiet hamlet of Torello to see the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, the oldest church in Ravello.
Although located right at the steps of the Duomo, it can be easy to miss the Museo del Corallo, which contains an excellent collection of objects carved from coral. Visit the Camo factory next door for fine examples of coral carving, one of the traditional crafts on the Sorrento Peninsula. For another taste of tradition, take a cooking class at the very special Mamma Agata Cooking School located in a quiet spot below the center of Ravello overlooking the Bay of Salerno and beautiful Amalfi coastline.
