Reno Nightlife

Although hitting the slots in Reno's notorious casinos is undoubtedly a favorite pastime, the second wind that the city boasts as night falls is evident in the numerous neighborhood bars, clubs and live entertainment venues. A long-time favorite for Reno locals and visitors alike is Q's Billiard Room, which serves as a comfortable meeting place for friends. Choose from an extensive menu of draught beers while taking advantage of the 15 billiard tables and late-night dinner menu. For a similar laid-back atmosphere with homey activities such as weekly Wii competitions and giveaways, round up the crew and head to the Little Waldorf Saloon. Large-screen TVs and a great drink menu make this an ideal option for early evening gatherings.

If you happen to be in Reno in late September, an absolute must-see is the Street Vibrations Festival, which includes four main stages and your fair share of music, metal and motorcycles. Nonstop entertainment during the day is typically complemented by a fireworks display at night. Check the annual calendar for a complete listing of shows and activities. Another can't-miss event is Hot August Nights, when classic automobiles from the 1950s and 1960s attract more than 800,000 visitors every year. Controlled cruises, rock 'n' roll themed concerts, an abundance of shopping and daytime activities make this a suitable event for the whole family.

For a younger and more outgoing side of Reno, hitting the club and live entertainment scene reveals an eclectic energy like no other. Places that start as casual bars such as El Cortez Lounge quickly evolve into karaoke and dance venues as DJs spin live tunes, the abundant drink specials flow, and people start going wild on the dance floor. Another fresh-faced option on the block is Bahia Nightclub Reno, where the Latin flavor of this Southwestern city takes over. At Bahia, salsa, meringue, cumbia and samba get feverish night goers into the swing of things fast, with little to hold back.

More variety in live music is also within close reach if swinging your hips to Latin beats doesn't suit your fancy. At the Underground, live DJs and bands ranging from world beat to hardcore compose this thoroughly unclassifiable venue. Some evenings even allow minors entry, so be sure to check listings beforehand. Once you've reached that final lap in the evening, an ideal place to wear your dancing shoes or just relax with friends is Coco Boom, where nearly 500 people pack the dance floor on weekends, while others take advantage of more secluded areas to enjoy drinks. Whatever the occasion or the energy level, Reno's little big-town vibe keeps visitors happy year after year.
