      • 2. Little Nugget Diner

      • If you are awful, awful hungry, then stop by here and try the famous Awful Awful Burger. It's a favorite Reno bargain consisting of a charbroiled half-pound burger atop a mound of seasoned fries for $6.95. The restaurant is always crowded with counter-style seating. The hassle of parking downtown and sitting elbow-to-elbow with the other hungry patrons is quickly forgotten when your food arrives. You can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner any time of the day or night. The restaurant accepts cash only.

      • 5. India Kabab & Curry

      • This unassuming restaurant close to downtown is very popular with locals for their excellent lunch buffet. All standard Indian dishes are featured as well as some great sauces and garlic naan. Try their kher for dessert. The restaurant plays Bollywood music videos all day long and they are fun to watch and dance to.

    • Pie-Face Pizza Co. - Reno
      • 8. Pie-Face Pizza Co.

      • Pizza at Pie-Face is served whole or by the slice and it's right next the funky El Cortez Hotel and near the Imperial Bar. The decor is actually more like a French café, than a pizza place and gets really busy on weekend nights. The ingredients for the pizzas are fresh and the crust is thin. They offer a special on most nights: a can of beer and a slice for $4 US.

      • El Salvador serves up excellent Latin food in this small place near California Street. The most popular item being the various forms of pupusa. These little pockets of delight are served with excellent salsa and cole slaw and only cost around $2 each. Other items on the menu include seafood and mixed meat platters. El Salvador also serves up Latin beers and sodas. Outdoor dining is available during nice weather.

  • Reno is still a great deal for inexpensive and excellent food. The casinos keep you fed with $5.55 and $7.77 buffets, and there are usually lunch specials at most local restaurants.

But you want some variety too, right? You can always go with a tried and true diner like the Gold-n-Silver Inn, which was featured on the Food Network's Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives or get an Awful Awful burger from the Little (Golden) Nugget in downtown Reno. This burger is so famous, it won the Food Wars contest on the Food Network. You can also satisfy your nostalgia for classic Americana by heading to Mels' Diner at the Sands.

For something different, try the lunch special at India Kabab and Curry or a Mexican lunch at Miguel's. Both of these restaurants are located in the Midtowne section of the city. Also, pick up a couple of deli sandwiches at Newman's or Paisan's and eat by the river or in a park.

For dinner, pick up a pizza from Pie-Face (they have a $4 slice and beer special) or hang with the locals at the Vietnamese Pho 777 or nosh on a pupusa at El Salvador. All these restaurants are right downtown...so you have more change leftover for the slots.
