  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Do you want to get away from the popular restaurants and the buffets in the casinos? Do you want to stay away from the crowds. What about trying something a little different. Reno does have some restaurants that are off the beaten path and you are bound to find something you like (and will want to keep secret) at one of these places.

If you want to stay downtown, visit the 775 Gastropub for some quick bites and drinks, or the Old Granite Street Eatery for some interesting appetizers. For some authentic pupusas and sauce, visit El Salvador near the CalAve District.

Around downtown, try the lunch or dinner special at the Ethiopian restaurant, Zagol, on Fourth Street. It's okay here to eat with your fingers. For some great vegetarian or vegan food, head to the Pneumatic Diner near the Truckee River. The place is small, a little hard to find, but worth it for their baked goods and funky atmosphere. Another good vegetarian restaurant is the Dandelion Deli on Wells Avenue.

For something out of town, try the Red Dog Saloon's pizza in Virginia City or the Creole style food at the Crown Point Restaurant at the Gold Hill Hotel, just south of Virginia City. Down in Genoa, visit the excellent La Ferme and in Washoe Valley have dinner at Atabi or breakfast at the Postal Café.
