Nearly every summer day there are crowds of people enjoying the river, either by wading in it, rafting in it, kayaking or even swimming on a hot day. On cooler days, this is a perfect place for whitewater kayaking. This park is the only park in the U.S. that is right smack downtown close to hotels and parking and it open year-round.

  • There's a reason why Nevada is called America's Adventure Place. Reno is in the center of some wild areas and it is easy to access the desert, the mountains, lakes and rivers in just a short drive.

Within Reno you can have a little adventure right downtown. The Truckee River Whitewater Park is always flowing with water from Lake Tahoe. At this park you can do some whitewater kayaking, rafting or tubing. Also along any part of the river, you can fish for brook or rainbow trout.

For the kids, a small adventure and some rides can be enjoyed at the Great Basin Adventure at Rancho San Rafael Park in North Reno or at Virginia City. At this historic mining town, they can pan for gold, go on a steam train ride or watch some gamblers and cowboys shoot it up at a Wild West show. For some adventure just outside of town, visit the Loneliest Road in America: Hwy 50. It run from Carson City through Nevada and passes through several mountain ranges, state parks, petroglyph areas and native landmarks. Lake Tahoe with its boating, swimming, skiing and hiking is within an hour of Reno.
