  • Reno is a great place to enjoy the outdoors, its proximity to Lake Tahoe, the Eastern Sierras and the Nevada desert gives the Reno visitor a plethora of outdoor sport choices. Within Reno, there are several parks, trails and even some great outdoor cafés to enjoy.

Visit the best parks in the area. This includes the Truckee River Whitewater Park and Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. You can bike along the Truckee River from both of these parks. Rancho San Rafael, home of the Reno Balloon Races, and Idlewild Park near the Truckee River are the two largest parks in the city. A hidden nature reserve is Oxbow Park.

For some great views, check out Windy Hill, where you can hike down the hill into the Southwest part of the city and Bartley Ranch Park. The Galena Creek Trail in South Reno will take you into the foothills below Lake Tahoe and the Mt. Rose Summit Trail will take you to the top of the entire area. For some other great views, visit Davis Creek, just south of Reno and climb the Ophir Creek Trail up to Tahoe Meadows.
