Description:

  • The reputation of this intimate four-star hotel, situated on a central but quiet residential street, rests on its Icelandic art collection and first-rate French restaurant. Original owner Tþorvaldur Guðmundsson died in 1998, but rooms and common spaces are adorned with his prodigious stockpile of paintings and drawings, including several by Jóhannes S. Kjarval. Rooms are all tastefully decorated with dark wood furniture, and the library, sitting room, and lounge are especially appealing. The rooms themselves are a bit small and not all that luxurious, but art expands and enriches the mind, right? The restaurant, appropriately called "The Gallery," has the most impressive art display of all, and a dress code is enforced. Hotel staff is accommodating, and downtown is just a 5-minute walk away.
