Description:

  • One team runs both Sjávarkjallarinn (aka the Seafood Cellar, our favorite Reykjavík restaurant) and this restaurant-bar. The food is similarly playful and inventive, and both menus are equally enigmatic: One dessert option is "Strawberry 'lollipop': basil, pop rocks, vanilla." Start with a succulent soft-shell crab "Japanese style" (chile, BBQ, spring onion) and follow up with tuna tandoori (mashed potatoes, red chile, rocket lettuce, sansho pepper sauce). Sushi is the most reliable choice. Of course it's not quite up to Cellar level, but patrons are too distracted by that beautiful person at the next table to pay close attention to the food anyway -- after 10pm Thorvaldsen becomes a suave nightspot for snappy dressers.
