Description:

  • This discreet bar close to a strip of gay-friendly bars in Ipanema has developed a reputation as one of the chicest hangouts for gay women in the city. A small bar with a handful of outdoor tables and chairs, the name translates as House of the Moon' in Portuguese. The stars of the drinks menus are the batidas (sugar cane rum mixed with fruit and condensed milk), made with passion fruit, strawberry, coconut, peach or peanut. To soak up the alcohol, try the plate combining 10 types of chicken, sausage and meat - perfect for sharing. Casa da Lua is a good lunch spot too. Until 3:30pm, there's a pay-by-weight buffet with a great range of salads, sides and hot dishes. - Lucy Bryson
