- The word sinuca may be a Brazilian Portuguese take on the English word "snooker", but, confusingly, this actually refers to the American game of pool. It's very popular with young folk in Rio, and Sinuca da Lapa is one of the hottest spots for a game or two. Entrance is free—although you'll have to pay a few reias for each game—the place is spacious, and the bar is well-stocked. Right at the heart of Lapa, this unpretentious spot is a great place to socialize even for those who aren't such a dab hand at pool.
