Bars and clubs near Rio de Janeiro International Airport are, with very few exceptions, of little interest to tourists. The airport sits some way from the city center and the Zona Sul, and anyone with a short stopover here would be wise to seek sustenance at the numerous bars inside the airport rather than head out looking for something more exciting. The surrounding area is little-visited by tourists, and a lack of knowledge of the area could lead to a night out that is memorable for all the wrong reasons.
If you have a few hours to spare and happen to be here on a weekend evening, the best nightlife option close to Rio de Janeiro International Airport is the lively Feira Nordestina, a vast indoor arena dedicated to the culture and cuisine of Northeastern Brazil. For a minimal entrance fee, you could be enjoying wonderfully picante (spicy) food, while sipping a fruit cocktail and enjoying some live music and dancing.
From Sunday to Thursdays, the concentrations of bars and clubs closest to the airport can be found in Lapa, Laranjeiras and Santa Teresa.
Down in Lapa, there are scores of bars and clubs where you can dance and drink the night away, while Santa Teresa are home to more laid-back drinking options, such as the charming Bar do Gomes and the late-opening Simplesmente, which also serves good food at very fair prices.
