  • Sitting at the heart of Rio's docklands, Gamboa is being hailed as the new big nightlife zone for Rio, and bars and clubs near Gamboa, Rio de Janeiro look set to multiply dramatically over the next few months and years.

    Still a little rough around the edges, and not a place to walk around after dark (take taxis), Gamboa was given a major boost when it was chosen as the location for Cidade do Samba, a vast space dedicated to all things Carnival, and offering shows and spectaculars all year round.

    Along with Cidade do Samba, the other major nightlife attraction in Gamboa is Trapiche Gamboa, a lively nightclub where locals come to strut their samba stuff.

    Other clubs and bars near Gamboa can be found in Centro, with Club Six and Cine Ideal being two big late-night options; and in Lapa, where there are scores of bars centered around the Arcos da Lapa and the antique Rua do Lavradio.
