  • Located in Urca, possibly Rio's most gentile and slow-paced neighborhood, bars and clubs near Sugarloaf, Rio de Janeiro are more about chilling with a beer than partying hard.

    But while the options in Urca itself are a little limited, the nearby neighborhood of Botafogo boasts numerous lively options.

    In Urca itself, there are a couple of good bars near Sugar Loaf where you can enjoy a beer or cocktail and a bite to eat, with Bar e Restaurante Urca being a particular favourite with locals. Order your drink at the bar and sip it across the road, taking in the beautiful view. Garota da Urca, meanwhile, is part of a Rio-wide chain, but has a pleasantly 'local' atmosphere and is certainly not just for the tourists.

    For livelier options, head to Botafogo, where Cinematheque Jamclub and Drinkeria Maldita are two hip bars and clubs near Urca, or to Laranjeiras, where you can chill with the locals in this leafy, attractive residential area that is fast becoming the city's latest restaurant and nightlife hub.
