  • Nightlife in Rio is not all about samba and sin. The city is surprisingly well-blessed with theaters and cultural centers, so there's always an opportunity to soak up a little culture. Of course, it helps if you can speak the lingo, as almost all performances are exclusively in Portuguese, but a trip to our number one pick Teatro Municipal, is worth the entrance fee just to soak up the Belle Epoque spleandour of the place.

    Theaters in Rio can often be found within the confines of the city's many excellent cultural centers, of which Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil and Oi Futuro are two of the best for theater. Regular children's theater performances form part of the cultural calendar at these spots, and the colorful shows can be good rainy day options for families.
