  • Hardcore carnivores, welcome to your food heaven - Brazilian restaurants in Rio de Janeiro provide unlimited opportunity to wolf down as many cuts of prime quality meat as you could dream of.

For meat eaters, the top Brazilian restaurants in Rio are the city's famous churrascarias (meat grills) where a set price buys you literally all the meat you can eat. Much more sophisticated than the concept sounds, Rio churrascarias are excellent for family visitors, with children generally dining half price. Although not the cheapest, the Porcao chain is worth the price tag for the high quality of the meat as well as the excellent buffet of salads, sides, sushi and a whole lot more. For the ultimate Brazilian restaurant experience in Rio de Janeiro, book a table at Porcao Rio's, in Flamengo, where you can enjoy spectacular views over Sugar Loaf mountain.

The Brazilian national dish is Feijoada, a hearty mix of beans and all manner of meat cuts, and while it is traditionally eaten on Saturdays it can be sampled every day of the week at Casa da Feijoada.

Rio de Janeiro Brazilian restaurants also provide ample opportunity to sample traditional dishes from other regions of the country, with Bar do Arnaudo in Santa Teresa serving up huge portions of wonderful Northeastern cuisine. Nearby, Bar do Mineiro is a relaxed spot serving traditional dishes from Minas Gerais, while Espirito Santa makes good use of ingredients from the Amazon.

Vegetarians in Rio needn't despair - there is good, healthy meat-free food to be found at the city's many 'Natural' restaurants, with Vegetariano Social Clube in Leblon being an excellent and very affordable example.
