  • Sweet-toothed visitors to Rio de Janeiro won't be disappointed - the locals love all things naughty and nice, and Rio de Janeiro dessert restaurants are wonderful places to indulge in something wicked.

ook out for confeitarias, which are essentially cake and pastry stores, selling all manner of sweet treats. The most famous of these is Confeitaria Columbo, in the city center, where you can indulge amid Belle Epoque splendor.

Nearby, the cosy Casa Cave serves up delicious coffee and cakes for very affordable prices, and makes a great pit stop during a shopping or sightseeing tour of Centro.

For something a little lighter, look no further than the hundreds of Rio de Janeiro frozen yogurt restaurants that have sprung up across the city in the last couple of years. You won't have to walk more than a hundred yards to find one of these, and two of the best options are Froyo and Yogoberry.

Rio frozen yogurt restaurants have yet to totally replace ice-cream in the hearts of the locals, and there are still plenty of spots to enjoy a scoop or two. Sorvete Brasil is just one of many excellent Sorvetarias (ice cream parlours) in Rio.
