Top 10:

Rio de Janeiro Hostels

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Whether you're a cash-strapped traveler looking to stretch the budget or a solo backpacker looking for new travel buddies, Rio's diverse hostel scene has something to suit. There are concentrations of hostels in the touristy beach zones of Copacabana and Ipanema, which offer easy access to sun, sand and nightlife; while cheaper options can be found closer to the city center, with residential Botafogo home to a particularly lively hosteling scene. The leafy hillside neighborhood of Santa Teresa also offers a scattering of pleasant hostels, while the cheapest backpacker digs in town can be found at Lapa's SambaVilla hostel, located right at the heart of the street party action. Hostels in Rio range from dinky little spots with just a few beds to vast party hostels attracting a young and up-for-it crowd, and typically cost anywhere between R$15 to R$50 per night for a dorm bed. Most hostels also offer private rooms, but these tend to fill up quickly so book in advance if you're anxious for privacy.
