The world-famous Christ the Redeemer statue stands tall atop Corcovado, the highest of Rio de Janeiro's many mountains, in the middle of lush jungle. Accordingly, hotels near Corcovada, Rio de Janeiro, are few and far between, as the surrounding rainforest remains pleasantly untouched by developers.
But while you won't find hotel accommodation in the immediate vicinity of Corcovado, the surrounding neighborhoods of Santa Teresa, Botafogo and Flamengo all offer good options to suit all budgets.
From Santa Teresa, it is in fact possible to walk up to the Christ statue, but only make this trip if you are with experienced locals or guides, as robberies are not unknown.
