This docklands district is considered an up and coming area of Rio de Janeiro, and there are no shortage of hotels near Gamboa, Rio de Janeiro.
Be warned, however, that while there are some good business hotels and tourist spots nearby, hotels in the immediate vicinity of Gamboa are more sleazy than chic, and generally charge by the hour.
For less seedy options, visitors looking for hotels near Gamboa can find concentrations of mid-range hotels in Centro, with Guanabara Palace being the plushest option nearby. Visitors planning to spend time in Gamboa might also want to consider making their base in neighboring Santa Teresa, where there is five star pampering at the Hotel Santa Teresa and boutique treats at Mama Ruisa. If you want to be near the city's famous beaches, the Leme end of Copacabana is the closest to Gamboa.
While Gamboa has some lively nightlife and is close to some tourist spots such as Candelaria church and Paco Imperial, it is not the safest area in Rio. Avoid walking around after dark, and always take taxis door to door at night.
